ESB revamps its ecar connect mobile app

Updated version now shows charger type.

What's the news?

It's good news for electric vehicle owners in Ireland as ESB has given its ecar connect app an overhaul to give users a better experience. The app, which is free to download on iOS and Android devices, now allows users to filter charge points according to type. This now shows where CCS charge points are, which will be good news for drivers of Volkswagen e-Golf and BMW i3 and i8 models that use the system. ESB has also changed the colour schemes for the charge point icons to bring them into line with those used in Northern Ireland thus making it easier to plan cross-border journeys.

The app also integrates Google Maps in order to provide navigation directly to the chosen charge point. This will give users the ability to plan direct routes to the nearest charging location, which could be particularly useful when in an unfamiliar area.

Anything else?

Despite the updates it still is not possible for the app to show in realtime if a charge point is currently in use, but it is something that ESB says it expects to be included in another update in early 2016.
