What's the news?
Mazda is planning to go beyond at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) with this sharp-suited Koeru crossover SUV concept.
Showing off some sleek Kodo 'Soul of Motion' design themes, the Koeru - Japanese for 'exceed' or 'go beyond', so now we should really apologise for the dreadful pun in the opening paragraph - could preview a new CX model to go with the CX-3 and CX-5 vehicles.
And, lest we forget, Mazda used to make a CX-7 and has a CX-9 in the US; the CX-7 nameplate is currently vacant, therefore, although this Koeru could also be a coupé-style crossover at about the CX-5's market level.
Unfortunately, there's little more to say at this stage, other than the Koeru will have the full line-up of Mazda's Skyactiv technology, both in the drivetrain and the construction. Full details will come at the IAA in September.
Anything else?
On the Mazda stand at the IAA alongside the Koeru will be the new, fourth-generation MX5, the CX-3, the updated CX-5, the Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda6, and exhibits of the Skyactiv engines, one petrol (the 2.5-litre unit) and two diesels (1.5 and 2.2 litres).
