What's the news?
The revival of TVR Cars is continuing at a healthy pace with news that more than 250 deposits have been placed for its new sports car. When news of the collaboration between TVR, highly respected designer, Gordon Murray, and Cosworth Engineering broke earlier this year, enthusiasts' appetites were well and truly whetted.
"We seem to be on something of a rollercoaster ride at the moment", said John Chasey, Operations Director of TVR. "We began to take deposits in June purely because we had so much clear demand and potential customers wanted to know when they could commit and when they might expect delivery. The new factory will be ramping up production during 2017 and therefore initial volumes are limited, but here we are only a few weeks later announcing this remarkable order take, so it's only fair to make potential customers aware that any new orders will now be delivered in early 2018."
Relatively little is know about the new car but it seems that the parties involved combined with the widespread adoration for the TVR brand is enough to convince many to put their money down to be early in the queue for its first new car since its demise under Russian ownership.
Commenting on the hugely positive news, Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR, said: "This a heart-warming situation we find ourselves in. We are mindful that we have taken deposits from customers who have not even yet seen official pictures of the car. Nevertheless people have been prepared to part with a substantial sum on the basis of what we have been able to openly convey about the project, and on the strength of the partnerships that we have formed with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth Engineering. We look forward to revealing more details soon, and to all our customers who have shown their faith I can promise that the new car will exceed expectations in every way."
Anything else?
The influx of money from the deposits already put down in the first six weeks will go a long way towards ensuring the car's development can begin in earnest. The first customer deliveries are set to begin in 2017. Such is demand that TVR says all of its 2017 allocation has been spoken for and deposits taken now will guarantee car delivery in 2018.
