Is this the Nissan Z-car crossover?

Japanese car firm Nissan teases a crossover concept due for a Frankfurt premiere.

What's the news?

The build-up to this month's Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) has been refreshingly bereft of teasers so far, so thank you Nissan for spoiling that run with this infuriatingly sparse release. Anyway, feast your eyes on this briefest of brief glimpses of a Z-crossover concept thingy destined for the IAA.

Nissan, boasting about its invention of the crossover segment with the Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail models, which have sold more than 2.5 million units across Europe, says it is trying to 'move the bar higher' and 'create a new way to feel driving excitement' with this IAA showpiece.

From what we know, we think this means the concept lined up for Frankfurt is based on the 370Z, creating a sporty SUV in the process. And although Nissan is touting this as all-new, don't forget the company did the Murano (which had a detuned 350Z engine) for five years in the Noughties. Could we see that nameplate being revived...? All will be revealed in Germany.

Anything else?

Frankfurt IAA runs from September 15-27 this year.
