What's the news?
This is the next-generation Subaru Impreza, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show under the veil of the 'Impreza Five-Door Concept'.
In 2014, Fuji Heavy Industries (the parent company of Subaru) announced 'Prominence 2020', a new wave of vehicles that will improve the carmaker's lot. The aim is to move the brand upmarket and the Impreza, scheduled for a 2017 launch, will lead the charge.
The Five-Door Concept is certainly a handsome enough hatchback, looking reasonably compact despite its 4,400mm long/1,880mm wide/1,440mm high dimensions. Some classic Subaru signifiers are there - including the 'hawk-eye' headlights, hexagonal radiator grille and its chunky stance on a set of 19-inch wheels - while the company is keen to play up the new crease lines running along the Impreza's flanks.
Anything else?
Subaru calls this design expression 'Enjoyment and Peace of Mind', but it's not just about looks - the company claims the car has 'excellent aerodynamic performance'.
