Readers' cars: Skoda Superb Combi 4x4 service time

With a first service due in less than 2,000km I called into the garage on Monday to get booked in. Booking in my last car would take five minutes, but I could have to wait for a month so I was expecting the same. I need not have worried. A booking was made for two days' time and I was offered a courtesy car if I needed it. The whole process took less than five minutes and I was back on the road. My booking was made for Thursday afternoon and should take around an hour and a half.

Sometimes though plans change and they did on Thursday morning. With that I called straight to the dealer on the off chance they could sort out an earlier time. They took the car in and gave me a loaner. Before lunch the work was done. When I picked up the car it was clean and sitting outside the door. A price of €125 for parts and labour I think was good value. A full health check gave the all clear except for a squeaky rear wiper. No biggy in my book and I never noticed it so it can wait. The tyre wear is even inside to outside and I have already switched front to back but it looks like I should have another 20,000km before I have to replace them.

When I bought the Superb I was told about the DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) and how it needed a good drive every so often to keep it in good working order. Well it got a good drive early last week and I could not believe the difference afterwards. The engine seemed to breathe better, run smoother and pick up quicker. If you do drive a modern VAG (and others) diesel it's worth giving it a run every so often, you will be surprised with the results.

So all in all it's been trouble free motoring for the last 30,000km and I'm looking forward to the next 30,000km.
