Opel starts prepping us for new GT concept

Nothing to see here but tease…

What's the news?

Coming this spring, a man walks down a sinister corridor as a door lights up in red before him. Is that red glow supposed to be the outline of a brake light? The man, wearing a sharp suit and really, really nice shoes, gets closer and closer to the door as the music swells. He opens the door and then...

Why, it's that nice Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO of Opel. He wouldn't hurt a fly, surely? "Take a look at Opel with fresh eyes?" Why sure, Mr Neumann, why not? Why is the camera zooming into your eye? Why is your eye glowing red? Mr Neumann? Why... ARRRRGHHGHGHGHHH!!! HE's got some kind of glowing red alloy wheel in his eye! Mr Neumann's a Terminator!!!! Run for the hills!!!

Oh, wait - it's just a teaser trailer and it looks as if Opel is setting us up for the reveal of a new coupe concept, called the Opel GT (a name harking back to a classic sixties original).

Details are pretty sketchy right now, but Neumann has previously promised that the new GT will be "something that you might not expect from us." A new Opel coupe would be nice, but doesn't it rather fly in the face of expectations that the brand was going to launch a range-topping SUV, rather than a coupe or a big saloon?

We'll find out more this day week...
