SsangYong confirms Tivoli XLV

SsangYong Tivoli XLV to get Geneva debut.

What's the news?

SsangYong is going to put an extended version of the Tivoli crossover into production, with the vehicle getting a full reveal at Geneva following on from the Air XLV Concept's reveal at Frankfurt IAA last year.

To be called the Tivoli XLV and thus proving the point of the concept car, this newcomer shares the same platform and 2,600mm wheelbase as the regular Tivoli but instead has an extra 235mm of bodywork grafted on aft of the C-pillar; oof, long rear overhangs, anyone?

This boosts cargo capacity from 423 litres on the shorter Tivoli to 720 litres on the XLV, although we reckon - despite SsangYong's silence on the matter - that the extra metal might allow for a seven-seat option.

SsangYong will offer the Tivoli XLV with EU6-compliant 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines, manual or automatic transmissions (both six-speeds), and front- or four-wheel drive.

Anything else?

Alongside the Tivoli XLV production machine at Geneva will be SsangYong's SIV-2 midsize premium SUV concept, with SIV standing for Smart Interface Vehicle. The SIV-2 builds on the SIV-1, which debuted at the same show in 2013, and it features a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol with mild electrification, allowing for reduced CO2 emissions and silent running at low speeds. Styled under the design concept of 'Dynamic Motion', SsangYong says the SIV-2 'will evolve to become a key strategic model within the range', so it should make production in some form before long.
