Stephan Winkelmann, the popular President and CEO of Lamborghini has been announced as the successor to Heinz Hollerweger, as the CEO of quattro GmbH, the high performance subsidiary of Audi AG. Hollerweger is to retire after close to 40 years with the Audi brand.
The announcement was made by Audi Board of Management Chairman, Rupert Stadler. He remarked on Winkelmann's experience from more than eleven years in charge of Lamborghini, adding: "Stephan Winkelmann will be a key contributor to the further growth of quattro GmbH."
During his tenure at the Sant'Agata company he oversaw substantial investment that helped develop Lamborghini into one of the most desirable super sports car brands in the world. Production numbers are currently at record levels and in 2018 the company will add a third model line for the first time, with the introduction of an SUV model.
As CEO of quattro GmbH, Winkelmann will oversee the development of the R and RS models, but it also includes the Audi Sport brand which looks after customer motorsport, the accessories of the Audi Sport collection and the car customisation services of Audi exclusive. Winkelmann will officially take up the role as of March 15, 2016.
