What's the news?
We had been half-expecting a Fiesta RS but Ford it seems won't go to those extremes with its small hatch. Instead what we're getting is the revival of another classic Ford nameplate - the ST200.
That badge will now be glued to the back of a hotter Fiesta ST, boasting a power upgrade to 200hp and a rise in torque to 240Nm. But wait, there's more... Thanks to an overboost feature, you can access an extra 15hp and 30Nm of torque for 15 second bursts. It'll get from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds. The gearbox and final drive ratios have also been altered to improve acceleration times. It's a bit meaningless of course but the top speed climbs to 230km/h.
As well as the extra power you get revised suspension (new front knuckle, torque vectoring by braking, centre of gravity dropped by 15mm, new spring and damper settings, new 17-inch alloys) lots of silver detailing on the inside, along with new Recaro bucket seats, and unique Storm Grey paintwork.
"The Fiesta ST is truly beloved by owners and critics. The ST200 takes this special drivers' car to a new level of power and performance," said Joe Bakaj, Vice President, Product Development, Ford of Europe. "I think it's a future classic in the making."
