Aston Martins fly multiple national flags

Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantages to get country-specific 'wings' badges.

What's the news?

Could this be the ultimate in badge engineering? For the nine rounds of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the three Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTE entries will wear hand-crafted 'wings' badges that sport the colours of the country they're racing in.

Commissioned by the marque's 'Q by Aston Martin' personalisation service, the first will be based on the UK's national flag as the WEC opener is the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

Alternative-coloured wings badges bearing the shades of the national flags of the host countries will be fitted for the following eight rounds, with the centrepiece of the championship being the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Each wings badge is created using CAD equipment and also jewellery machinery that dates back more than 120 years, with jeweller Vaughtons of Birmingham in the UK chosen as the partner firm for this project.

Anything else?

Dr Matthew Bennett, general manager for Q by Aston Martin, said: "Our service endeavours to provide customers with a range of unique and personalised options for their road cars, and I'm proud to be able to bring a bespoke touch of luxury to our Aston Martin Racing entries for the 2016 season. We look forward to seeing these iconic Aston Martin wings badges take to some of the world's leading race circuits."
