Western Motors backing Drogheda charity fun run

Volkswagen dealer and Liverpool legend turning out for adults and kids with disabilities.

What's the news?

Western Motors, Drogheda's Volkswagen dealership, is supporting this year's Rainbow Fun Run. The Rainbow Challenge 5K fun run will raise funds for The Rainbow Club, an organisation working in the Drogheda area with kids and adults with disabilities. The run, which takes place on the 24th of July, is also being supported by local Drogheda football club Albion Rovers. And that's where the Liverpool legend thing comes in, because Ireland footballing legend and Liverpool superstar Ronnie Whelan will be hosting a football skills club and an obstacle course race on the day too.

The event will also include many family activities for all ages to enjoy including a junior obstacle course, children's zone, arts & craft stalls, cooking demonstrations and live music.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Simon McCormack, principal dealer in Western Motors Volkswagen said: "We are delighted to support this event and support such a worthy charity and cause. The funds raised are much needed and will have a positive impact for our local community. On behalf of Western Motors Volkswagen, I would like to wish everyone taking part in the run the best of luck."

The local Rainbow club has been running for 12 years and is situated in Drogheda Town Clubhouse, Marian Park, with seven staff members who help to run three Youth Clubs, with ages ranging from 10-18 and over. They also run a club on a Saturday morning for younger children aged 4-10. Entry for the fun run is €20 and with an additional charge of €10 for those who wish to take part in the skills session with Ronnie Whelan. Western Motors Volkswagen are proudly sponsoring the Rainbow Challenge to support under age soccer and the Irish Wheelchair Association.
