Citroen has unveiled a series of EV (Electric Vehicle) designs at the Royal College of Art's Interim Degree Show in London. The 'Double Challenge' project was held for RCA MA second year students with the task of designing a unique, compact electric vehicle for Citroen.
Heikki Juvonen's E-3POD 'Antistatic' was chosen as the best by Citroen's Style Centre and Electric Vehicle Development Team. The radical design features a sleek single-seat cabin and a three-wheel layout aimed at personal urban traffic.
It is not meant to be a replacement for the family car, however; instead an addition to the family fleet filling a gap between motorcycles and cars. The light, aerodynamic design is aimed at extending range, meaning fewer recharges. It would also provide cost efficient transport and an isolated personal space, meant to compete with public transportation and bicycles.
As a prize, the winning designer gained a six-month employment at PSA Design Centre.
Citroen had been involved in the project by providing industry figures to the students organising a trip to the PSA Design Centre and La Conservatoire, Citroen's in-house museum of historic models.
The RCA is the only exclusively postgraduate art and design university. The college's Automotive Design course has been in existence for 40 years and is the oldest in Europe.
