BMW 5 Series tech preview

New teaser shows some of the technology that will appear on new BMW 5 Series.

What's the news?

BMW has released a short video on its Facebook page that showcases some of the features that will be available on the seventh generation 5 series, codenamed G30. The 5 Series will be revealed soon, but not at the Paris Motor Show, and is due to go on sale by mid-2017.

A variety of features on the new 5 Series pave the way for automated driving. The new 5 Series can follow the road, read and obey speed limits, thanks to a feature called 'Crossroads Warning' it will even spot cars pulling out of side roads and start applying the brakes should they pull out.

The new model is blurred out in the video to keep the styling a secret. However, it is expected that the new model will be around 100kg lighter than its predecessor. The structure incorporates a variety of lightweight materials including carbon fibre, aluminium, magnesium and high-strength steel.
