Subaru’s Viviz-7 concept previews Range Rover rival

New concept shows off Subaru’s plans for a full-size 4x4.

What's the news?

Hands up who wants a Subaru the size of a Range Rover? And not just any Range Rover, but a full-fat, long-wheelbase one? Well, that's what the Viviz-7 concept previews - a massive new seven-seat SUV from Subaru, although in reality its rivals will be the likes of a Chevrolet Suburban and Ford Excursion, rather than a posh Rangie.

Unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show, the Viviz-7 "expresses our core brand values, safety, dependability, capability for outdoor activities and a forward-looking attitude," said Takeshi Tachimori, Corporate Executive Vice President, Fuji Heavy Industries, LTD. "We know customers in this segment want a full-sized vehicle and the next 3-row from Subaru will be the biggest Subaru vehicle ever."

Apparently, the design is based on the concepts of "DYNAMIC x SOLID" - which sounds about right for a car the size of a small bungalow. The cabin is huge, and while Subaru isn't saying anything about a potential engine, it will be a flat-style Boxer unit, most likely a turbo flat-six or big capacity flat-four.

The name will change too, although we don't know what to but we do know that it's staggeringly unlikely to come to Ireland at any point - this is a full-size 4x4 designed for the US market. Kinda tempting, all the same though...
