Volvo adopts Android

Smartphone Integration package brings Android to Volvo '90' series.

What's the news?

Volvo's '90' series cars are now available with Android Auto in addition to the existing Apple CarPlay as part of the new, optional Smartphone Integration package. This means that customers can access their Android phone's functions directly from the car's Sensus infotainment system in any new S90, V90, V90 Cross Country and XC90 model.

A wide range of Android-optimised apps - including Google Maps and Google Play Music - are available using the car's touch screen. The large size and portrait layout of the touch screen allow the smartphone apps to be displayed at the bottom of the screen; leaving the top part free to display the car's other main functions.

Users can make and receive calls, and send and receive text messages using Android Auto. These functions can be controlled using the car's or the phone's voice control system, allowing the driver stay connected while keeping his or her eyes on the road at all times.

Android phones running version 5.0 (lollipop) or later software are compatible with Android Auto.

Anything else?

If you have a 90 series Volvo built after April 2016 and fitted with Apple CarPlay it is possible to upgrade the Smartphone Integration as part of the car's routine servicing.
