Ford factory switches to toy cars for Christmas charities

Ford’s Romanian plant switches, for one day, to making toys for kids.

What's the news?

In amongst the horrors and tragedies of 2016, there is still it seems a bit of humanity left in the world. Once a year, for one day, a major Ford factory, out of its many worldwide, will switch from making real cars to making toy cars, just in time for Christmas. This year it's the turn of the factory in Craiova, Romania, which normally makes the (full-sized) B-Max mini MPV.

It's part of a global Ford tradition that sees employees and execs collecting donations of toys, presents, blankets and more, destined for childrens' charities, orphanages and other needy causes.

"Watching the toys come down the line is an amazing sight and the employees really get into the spirit of things by dressing up as Santa's helpers. It's important that we as a company give back to the wider community and this is a great way to make that happen," said Linda Cash, vice president, Manufacturing, Ford of Europe.
