Audi’s electric Q8 concept to headline Detroit Auto Show

500km range SUV will become Audi’s battery flagship.

What's the news?

Audi is beginning to tease the shape and styling of the upcoming all-electric Q8 e-Tron quattro with a concept car version. So far, all we have to go on are these computer-generated images, but they seem to show a low, lean, aggressive SUV with a broader, more octagonal version of the big Audi grille.

Audi says that there are design elements reminiscent of the original Quattro coupe, but to be honest we see rather more of a direct relationship to last year's e-Tron Quattro concept SUV. Either way, expect this to be pretty thinly disguised as concepts go, and very close to the final production version, which is expected to boast a 500km one-charge range and around 400hp from two electric motors - one for each axle.

"With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige," declared Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte. "What's more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line."
