What's the news?
Porsche has revealed the brand new 911 GTS range, and it's more extensive than ever. The GTS badge sits above the Carrera and Carrera S in the line-up and will be offered in Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa body styles with a variety of transmission options.
Exterior
'Dark' defines the styling updates that make up the 911 GTS. Up front, there's a new 'Sport Design' bumper with an integrated spoiler, complemented by new door mirrors and 20-inch alloy wheels, with centre locking hubs painted in silk-gloss black. The rear is even more distinctive thanks to darkened lights, a silk-gloss black air intake grille and central black-finished twin tailpipes of the sports exhaust system. The four-wheel drive versions of the GTS keep an illuminated strip between the rear lights, while the rear-wheel drive variants get a new black trim strip in the same location. Meanwhile, the Targa model gets a black roof bar. Regardless of body style, all versions of the new Porsche 911 GTS utilise the wider all-wheel drive 911 chassis.
Interior
Alcantara sets the 911 GTS apart inside. It's applied to the steering wheel rim, centre console, armrests and it upholsters the electrically adjusted 'Sports seats Plus', which feature a new stitching pattern and GTS logos on the headrests. There are also brushed, black anodised aluminium trim strips on the instrument cluster and an enhanced Porsche Track Precision smartphone app, plus a steering wheel mounted driving mode switch as standard.
Mechanicals
All versions of the new Porsche 911 GTS share the same uprated twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre 'boxer' petrol engine, producing up to 450hp and 550Nm of torque - the latter from 2,100rpm to 5,000rpm. Those numbers represent a useful 30hp and 50Nm increase over the Porsche 911 Carrera S's output. What that does to performance depends on the variant, though all can exceed 300km/h. Porsche tells us that the four-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupe sets the fastest 0-100km/h time, at 3.6 seconds, while the most efficient is the two-wheel drive 911 Carrera GTS, returning 34mpg and 188g/km. To achieve those figures, the optional PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission is required - a seven-speed manual gearbox is standard.
Other tweaks include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with sports suspension, which lowers the ride height and centre of gravity 10mm further than the standard 911 Carrera S; and the Sport Chrono package that adds dynamic engine mounts, the drive mode selector mentioned above and a switchable, modified sports exhaust.
Anything else?
The new Porsche 911 GTS is available to order now with first deliveries starting in March this year. Irish pricing is not yet available, though the full model range is as follows:
