Italian police Lamborghini gets coloured Pirelli tyres

Special-mission Lamborghini Huracan is the first to be fitted with Pirelli’s new coloured tyres.

What's the news?

How's that for a headline? Any sentence with 'Italian', 'police force' and 'Lamborghini' in it is sure to grab your attention, and as if a Huracan resplendent in full Polizia livery didn't stand out enough already, Pirelli's new coloured tyres are present on all four wheels.

In case you don't know what we're on about, Lamborghini has donated a Huracan fitted with coloured Pirelli tyres to the Italian police force in Bologna, joining the similar car already tasked with highway patrol in Rome. Capable of over 300km/h, the supercar will be especially useful for important missions such as high-speed organ transportation, and features a full suite of police vehicle equipment.

Launched in Geneva last month and based on the high-performance P-Zero rubber, the new coloured edition tyres are available in four base colours of yellow, red, white and silver. There's also an option to customise the design to any chosen colour, so the natural choice for this particular application (a world first on a road car) was light blue.

Unlike the coloured sidewalls used to signal tyre compounds on Formula 1 cars, these designs are purely cosmetic, just like the whitewall tyres of yesteryear. However, there will always be someone who thinks that their supercar doesn't quite stand out enough, so expect to see plenty of coloured Pirelli font on the streets of London pretty soon...
