Figures released by the Soceity of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that new cars sales rose four percent in February. Overall, sales are up 18 percent compared to the same period (Jan-Feb) in 2010.
A total of 12,609 new cars were registered compared to 12,083 in February 2010.
Toyota is the best selling brand in Ireland so far, with 16 percent market share ahead of Volkswagen and Ford.
Toyota's Avensis is the biggest selling car in the country, ahead of the Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Corolla.
Some 2,251 new cars have been sold as part of the Government scrappage scheme.
