Choice of gearboxes for new Renault Sport Megane

New Megane RS will be available with manual or automatic transmissions.

What's the news?

Renault Sport is drip-feeding us information about the MkIII Megane RS, which will make a full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September - and the latest announcement revolves around the choice of gearboxes the Megane will feature.

Ahead of its reveal in Germany, Renault Sport has driven the Megane RS around the Monaco GP circuit this weekend, with Nick Hülkenberg given the signal honour of taking the wheel.

However, the best news for long-time fans of RS is that the Dieppe-based lunatic wing of Renault is not going to foist an Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) gearbox on the Megane and an EDC alone; there will also be a 'proper' manual option for the keen driving enthusiast.

This is apparently a result of customer demand, presumably the people who are annoyed that the Clio RS is an EDC-only machine (potential RS16 model notwithstanding).

Current F1 team driver Hülkenberg said of the Megane RS: "I got an opportunity to test the all-new Megane RS during its development and I was hooked first time out by the excellence of its chassis. Renault Sport has done a tremendous job on its performance credentials."

Anything else?

Patrice Ratti, managing director of Renault Sport Cars, said: "I don't think we could have chosen a more appropriate or more impactful moment than the 40th anniversary of Renault's involvement in F1 to launch a new model. We aim to make the Megane RS the new compact sports car benchmark."
