We've been waiting a while, but TVR is finally back, and the revitalised company will unveil its new, still-un-named car, at the Goodwood Revival Festival in September.
The reveal will be part of the 70th birthday celebrations for the iconic, iconoclastic British sports car maker, which leapt to fame and fortune in the nineties with cars such as the Griffith, Chimera, and Cerbera, but which floundered in the noughties in the face of competition from the likes of Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, and BMW M.
The new car, funded by Les Edgar - the quintessential car nut with a large fortune who seems set on making a small fortune - has been designed by the legendary Gordon Murray (McLaren F1, Mercedes SLR, Rocket, Senna's F1 car) and will combine a low 1,200kg kerb weight with 330km/h performance.
The engine, a 5.0-litre V8, has been worked on by Cosworth Engineering, and the car is reputed to boast a power-to-weight ratio of 400hp per tonne. The 0-100km/h time should hover at around 4.0 seconds, and the price tag stands at STG£90,000, which would suggest an Irish import price of around €180,000.
Speaking of the planned public launch, Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR said: "We are incredibly excited to be unveiling the new car at the Goodwood Revival. It's the first time a global launch of a new car has occurred at the event, and it seems an entirely appropriate place for us to do it, with the marque's motorsport heritage and an enthusiastic audience of dedicated car fans - and in our 70th anniversary year. After a series of secret private viewings organised for the benefit of existing customers for the new car, we know that we have a surefire hit on our hands, and very much look forward to seeing the public reaction in September."
Speaking on behalf of the Revival, Lord March said: "We are delighted that TVR will feature so strongly over the Revival weekend this year. It is entirely fitting that TVR, as such an iconic British marque, should unveil what will be a very exciting entrant to the global sports car market at our iconic British event and I very much look forward to welcoming them to the Revival in September".
