Suzuki Swift Sport to debut in Frankfurt

140hp Suzuki Swift Sport gets turbo engine for the first time.

What's the news?

One of the best and most-underrated hot hatches is getting an upgrade this year with the arrival of the new Suzuki Swift Sport.

Set to be revealed at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September, it has according to Suzuki "undergone a complete redesign and delivers an all-new level of excitement for sport minded drivers across the world" That sounds good.

What it means in practice is that the old 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated engine has been binned in favour of the 140hp 1.4-litre turbo from the Vitara S (which is a cracking engine). Hopefully, the outgoing Swift's sharp steering and engaging handling will be retained (they certainly have been on the standard car) and while the power boost over the old 138hp engine is pretty modest, there will be more torque on offer, and hopefully superior emissions and economy.

For all the exciting, expensive metal due to be shown in Frankfurt, this one could well be a good shout for the 'Car We'd Most Like To Drive Home From The Show' award.
