Peugeot L500 R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo

Pixellated Peugeot concept celebrates 100th anniversary of Indy 500 win.

What's the news?

We all know Peugeot as a winner in rallying and at Le Mans (and, ahem, a competitor at least in F1) but did you know that the prancing lion once won the Indianapolis 500? Yup, 100 years ago, Dario Resta drove his L45 Peugeot racing car to victory at The Brickyard.

To celebrate the anniversary, Peugeot has created the L750R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo concept car. Well, we say created - it actually only exists in the Gran Turismo game for the Sony Playstation 4. It's based on the existing (well, virtually existing) Peugeot L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo gaming car.

If t'were real, t'would have an all-carbon-fibre chassis and body, and be powered by a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain with a combined 750hp. There's both a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery and a seven-speed sequential transmission tucked in there too, and all of the engine and transmission gubbins are mounted on the rear axle.

It weighs a notional 875kg, and can apparently accelerate from 0-100 virtual kilometres per hour in just 2.4 seconds.

Want to race one? Well, you can. Peugeot is having a 24hr race on Twitter, so head over to the twitter.com/Peugeot to find out more.
