Nissan launches electric van and ambulance concepts

Nissan e-NV200 ‘Fridge’ and Paramedic Concept get Tokyo Motor Show debuts.

What's the news?

Nissan is showing off two new van-based concepts at the Tokyo motor show this week.

The first is a new eNV200 electric van, dubbed the 'Fridge.' Based on the compact NV200 van, it's designed to be able to get in and out of urban environments restricted either by size, emissions, or both. It's called the Fridge because it has an extra lithium-ion battery pack which powers a refrigeration unit on the roof, meaning that your sushi can be delivered both fresh, and in silence. Nissan says that it has also included the around-view monitor camera system, and slightly cryptically, "technology to reduce the spread of germs." An on-board bottle of Dettol, perhaps?

The Paramedic Concept is based on the NV350 Caravan van, and boasts the usual on-board life-saving equipment, as well as a version of the eNV200's extra battery pack. While the Paramedic Concept uses a petrol engine, the battery pack is used to run the on-board patient support systems, which Nissan says is useful in remote areas, and also to reduce the vehicle's overall Co2 emissions.

"Our fifth-generation ambulance will offer enhanced features that will make a real difference to people's lives," said Ashwani Gupta, senior vice president of the Renault-Nissan LCV Business Unit. "The new Paramedic Concept contains vital life-saving equipment to respond to emergencies, often in remote areas. Meanwhile, the e-NV200 Fridge Concept will create huge value for commercial users - generating more business, as well as reducing the cost of ownership. With zero emissions, it'll be perfect for busy urban environments where larger vehicles are often prohibited."
