Ferrari FXX K Evo announced

No more power, but lots of aerodynamic changes for ultimate Ferrari FXX K.

What's the news?

Evo is an important term. When found in a car's title, it suggests that this is the best of the breed, the ultimate evolution. Stick that badge on a Mitsubishi Lancer and it transforms a boring saloon into a beast. What, then, when a car made by Ferrari bears the moniker? Something properly hardcore, that's what.

Now, a Ferrari FXX K isn't exactly shy. With over 1,000hp from its hybrid powertrain, wild looks and single-minded focus it couldn't possibly be. Reserved for the select and lucky few on the Prancing Horse's 'Corse Clienti' project, the track-only hypercar gives a glimpse at what racing cars could be like if they were unhindered by pesky regulations. As ever, Maranelllo has kept plugging away, so now we have the FXX K Evo.

Interestingly, power remains unchanged, though that's a moot point when you consider how much is already on offer. No, this exercise has mainly focused on aerodynamic improvements, that black art that causes engineers to go all gooey at the thought of an extra kilo of downforce here, a reduction in drag there.

Debuted at the Ferrari World Finals at Mugello, the changes are clearly noticeable. A fixed rear wing with a dorsal fin for lateral stability, modified bumpers, reprofiled intakes and lots of delicate-looking aero flicks form the visible upgrades, while the underbody has also been modified. These are said to deliver 830kg of downforce at flat-chat, a figure that's comparable with the firm's GT3 racers.

The suspension has been recalibrated to cope with that extra push (up by 23 per cent from the standard FXX K), while the interior features a remodelled steering wheel and a larger rear-view camera screen. The Evo package will be available as a standalone, extremely limited-edition model and as an upgrade pack to the outgoing car, and will form part of next season's XX programme, with ten track outings in total between March and October.
