Jeep Compass Irish prices

New Jeep Compass has four engine choices, two gearboxes and three trim levels.

What's the news?

Jeep Ireland has confirmed that the second-generation Compass SUV, which sits between the Renegade and Cherokee in terms of size, will start from €27,995 when it goes on sale in January.

We'll get one petrol engine here, a 1.4-litre MultiAir four-cylinder turbo with 140hp and front-wheel drive (FWD), while there will be a choice of three diesels: the 1.6-liltre MultiJet with FWD and 120hp; or a choice of 2.0-litre models, with either 140- or 170hp. Both these bigger capacity diesels come with all-wheel drive, while all Compass models have a six-speed manual transmission, except for the 170hp diesel, which features a nine-speed automatic as standard.

There are three trim lines for Ireland, which are Sport, Longitude and then Limited, culminating in an eight-model line-up when combined with the engine choices above. Sport, only available on the 1.6-litre 120hp diesel, includes 16-inch alloys, LED taillights, a leather multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, forward collision warning plus, lane departure warning plus and a 60:40 split rear seat.

Moving up to Longitude - which can be specified with the 1.4 petrol or the two lower-powered diesels - buyers enjoy larger alloys in the wheel arches, front fog lamps, dual-zone climate control, rear park distance control, Parkview reversing camera, power folding mirrors, keyless entry and go and a new 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment/satnav system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Top-of-the-range Limited trim, available on the same three engines as the Longitude as well as the 170hp diesel (meaning it's the only specification grade where you can have the 2.0-litre auto) brings in 18-inch alloys, halogen projector headlamps, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 560-watt Beats audio system, privacy glass, front park distance control to go with the rear system, blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection and parallel and perpendicular parking assist.

Anything else?

Prices start at €27,995 for the 1.6 120hp diesel Sport. The 1.4 petrol Longitude is €30,145, while the 1.6 and 2.0 140hp diesels in the same trim are €31,245 and €34,695 respectively. Top-spec Limited models begin at €33,595 for the 1.4 petrol, with the diesels (120-, 140- and the 170hp auto) at €34,695, €38,145 and €41,995 apiece.
