Hyundai has surprised visitors to the Seoul Motor Show with its Blue2 fuel-cell concept car.
The hydrogen fuel-cell provides 120hp and Hyundai says it uses the equivalent of 2.85 litres/100km (99mpg) running on hydrogen. When the fuel is used, the only exhaust emission is water in the form of steam.
To help the Blue2, which Hyundai pronounces "Blue Squared", low rolling resistance tyres are used. The body has been styled with Hyundai's new "fluidic design" principles in mind and Hyundai insiders say the Blue2 is a key indicator of how future models will look.
The interior of the Blue2 has a combined central cluster of instruments using an LED monitor. Each seat comes with an entertainment holder so passengers can use their iPad or other mobile devices safely.
Hyundai also wants the Blue2's occupants to breathe better air, so it comes with a built-in ioniser to freshen the air as it passes into the cabin through the vents. There's also an anti-bacterial treatment for the leather seats, which feature a leaf pattern that Hyundai calls "eco-graphic perforation".
