What's the news?
Rather incredibly, 2019 marks 60 years since we first saw one of the motoring world's most iconic and transformative cars, Sir Alec Issigonis' original Mini. Naturally, of course, the 21st-century entity that is MINI the company wants to celebrate this fact throughout the year, and the first party treat out of the gift bag is this, the Cooper S 60 Years Edition.
On the outside, the 60 Years Edition is finished in British Racing Green IV paint with Piano Black detailing - you'll find it on the roof, exterior trim pieces and the caps for the door mirrors. The 17-inch light alloy wheels are a design specific to this special MINI, with a two-tone look. Driving spot lamps are fitted to the front of the 60 Years Edition and the anniversary design bonnet stripes include the 60 Years emblem; this is repeated on the side scuttle indicator housings and is also projected, via LEDs housed in the door mirrors, onto the road surface near the car at night, when unlocking the vehicle.
Inside, the company has chosen the MINI Yours Leather Lounge ambience in a Dark Cacao hue with contrast seat stitching and piping, a hide that is exclusive to the special edition. The 60 Years logo can again be found on the steering wheel and front seats, while the equipment list is also generous - 8.8-inch touchscreen satnav, as part of the Navigation Plus pack, and the Comfort Plus pack (rear-view camera, folding exterior mirrors and front/rear Park Distance Control) are both include, building on the car's standard roster of LED front and rear lights, intelligent emergency call, ambient cabin lighting and auto lights and wipers, among more.
The MINI Cooper S 60 Years Edition will be offered with the automatic transmission only, which means 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds and best eco-stats of 43.5mpg (6.5 litres/100km) with CO2 emissions of 127g/km.
Anything else?
The MINI Cooper S 60 Years Edition will be built in limited numbers at the Plant Oxford site in the UK.
