New design sketches preview Skoda Kamiq

New Skoda compact SUV to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

What's the news?

Following a teasing silhouette image of the Skoda Kamiq, new design sketches released give a clearer view of how the new crossover will look. It will be the third SUV model in the Skoda range, slotting in beneath the Karoq.

The Skoda Kamiq will face plenty of competition when it goes on sale later this year, from models like the SEAT Arona and Volkswagen T-Cross, as well as the Kia Stonic. Like many of those it is likely to use a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine, and all versions are expected to be front-wheel drive only.

Skoda's Chief Designer, Oliver Stefani, said: "In our new Kamiq city SUV we've implemented a completely new headlight configuration. The two-part headlamps with daytime running lights above are a first for Skoda. They give the Kamiq a unique appearance and represent another interpretation of our successful SUV design language."

That split light design seems to continue to the rear lights and, like the recently unveiled Scala hatchback, the Kamiq will also carry the Skoda name across the tailgate instead of a badge logo.

Skoda is set to reveal more details of the Kamiq as its world debut on 5th March draws nearer at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
