Volkswagen has confirmed that the T-Roc crossover is getting a hot 'R' performance range-topper, which will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Using the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine as the Audi SQ2 and Cupra Ateca, the T-Roc R will boast 300hp and 400Nm, sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch 'box and 4Motion technology. That'll see the VeeDub hit 100km/h from rest in just 4.9 seconds, while the top speed will be the usual 250km/h... electronically limited, of course.
The vehicle heading to Geneva is described as a 'near-production concept car' but you can take it as read, from these images, that this is the finished article. Thus, the T-Roc R will have lowered suspension with Progressive Steering as standard, while the brakes will be large, 17-inch items - these will sit behind 18-inch 'Spielberg' alloys as standard, with dark-finished 19-inch 'Pretoria' wheels an option. Both of these have been seen on the Golf R, for reference.
Volkswagen is also saying the T-Roc R will have a 'Race' mode in its drive settings, while the Electronic Stability Control is fully switchable, meaning you can have the electronic safety nets off if you're feeling confident.
Inside and out, the T-Roc R has the usual fast Volkswagen signifiers, like a large grille with a silver surround, quad exhausts at the back, beefy air intakes, vertical daytime running lights, stainless steel 'R'-branded sill trims, 'R'-logoed seats, a leather multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifts, black headlining and contrast stitching in Crystal Grey.
