Massive Volvo luxury car previewed

Volvo could sell a luxury car in China called the S90.

Volvo is now owned by a Chinese firm and has chosen Auto Shanghai to reveal its new large saloon. Rumoured to be the basis for a new S90 model, the Concept Universe has only been partially uncovered so far to show a long and low profile.

Bosses at Volvo's parent company, Geely, are known to be keen on a large saloon for the Swedish firm. It will be the first time the S90 name has been used since 1998.

The profile of the car seen in the video below shows Volvo is looking at a fastback design similar to the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Jaguar XF, which are the most obvious rivals for the Volvo S90.

Volvo has not commented on engines or other technical details of the Concept Universe. However, this is set to be the first all-new car developed under Chinese ownership and it is likely to use a range of five-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as a six-cylinder turbo petrol. Four-wheel drive is also a possibility for the S90 and it should be on sale in 2013.
