Following on from the first full unveiling of the new Volkswagen ID.3 electric car on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen Ireland has confirmed representative pricing for the company's first production-ready ID model, along with the specifications of the limited launch edition that will arrive in Ireland before the end of 2020.
How much will the VW ID.3 be?
While a lot could happen between now and the ID.3 arriving on Irish shores, Volkswagen Ireland has confirmed that the entry-level model will be less than €30,000 once the SEAI grant and VRT rebate is taken into consideration. That's for the basic version of the ID.3, which features a 45kWh battery pack integrated into the floor of the Golf-sized EV.
The WLTP quoted range is 330 kilometres for that version. Next up is a 58kWh battery, lengthening the range between charges to 420km. The largest battery is rated at 77kWh, enabling a range of 550km. What's more, the ID.3 will be capable of fast charging; on a 100kW charger, Volkswagen says it can charge up by enough to travel approximately 290 kilometres in half an hour.
First orders get the ID.3 1st
In May this year, Volkswagen started taking booking deposits for the 'limited edition' ID.3 1st model, which is a highly specified launch variant. It will be under €40,000 and first deliveries arrive in Ireland in summer 2020. After that it looks like most versions won't arrive until 2021, in reality.
The ID.3 1st gets the mid-range 58kWh battery pack, feeding power to the rear-mounted electric motor. That's rated at 150kW (204hp) and 310Nm of torque. Volkswagen quotes a top speed of 160km/h.
Three separate versions of the ID.3 1st will be offered. The standard version gets satnav, seat and steering wheel heating, 18-inch alloys and DAB radio, along with the ID.3's fancy new all-touch interface of course. The ID.3 1st Plus adds a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, ambient lighting, upgraded seats and a Style package for the exterior, plus 19-inch wheels. The range-topping ID.3 1st Max adds an augmented reality head-up display, a Beats sound system, panoramic glass roof and 20-inch alloys.
