The latest addition to the limited edition, aeronautically themed specials in the Aston Martin Wings Series is this, the DBS Superleggera Concorde Special Edition. Commissioned by Aston Martin Bristol in England, it marks 50 years since the first flight of the mighty Concorde, and just 10 examples will be made by 'Bespoke Q by Aston Martin'.
British Airways livery
It isn't only 50 years since Concorde flew, but also the 100th year that British Airways has been in service, so Aston Martin took its livery as inspiration for the exterior of this limited edition DBS Superleggera, which explains the blue, white and red detailing in the front splitter, roof arches, rear spoiler and diffuser. Look closer and you'll spot the glorious bespoke side strakes milled form solid aluminium with the distinctive shape of Concorde at the front. The style of the jet is also referenced in the black-tinted carbon fibre roof, while a unique Aston Martin wings badge sits on the bonnet. Behind the doors you'll spot 'G-BOAC' Civil Aviation Authority aircraft identifier numbers.
First class interior
The Concorde references continue inside, where you'll find the Concorde logo on the front seat facings; a Mach Meter graphic embroidered on the driver's side sun visor; a unique headliner featuring printed Alcantara displaying a 'sonic boom' graphic; paddle shifters made from titanium from Concorde compressor blades; floor mats in a Terence Conran design pattern; seatbelt buckle badges milled from solid aluminium; and bespoke sill plaques.
Supersonic performance
Aston Martin has wisely left the technical package of the DBS Superleggera alone, sticking with its twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 and rear-drive layout. That powerplant produces 725hp and 900Nm of torque, allowing a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h. Some way short of the 2,179km/h that Concorde could achieve, but hardly shabby.
The finishing touch
Parts of the proceeds from the sale of each of the special-edition DBS Superleggeras will be donated to the Air League Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that teaches under-privileged children how to fly - and offers support for them to work in engineering.
Other Astons in the Wings Series include the Vanquish S Red Arrows Edition, Vantage Blades Edition and the V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80.
Oh, and for the plane nerds out there, today's date (November 26) was the same as that of the very last Concorde flight (G-BOAF). That aircraft resides in Aerospace Bristol, 'just a long runway's length away' from Aston Martin Bristol, where you'll need to go if you want to get your hands on one of these cars.
