A new voluntary safety recall has been issued from Mazda Ireland concerning several of its most popular models. In all, Mazda Ireland says that around 10,470 vehicles in Ireland will need to be recalled as part of this latest action. These include models of Mazda CX-5 that were produced between January 2012 and May 2018, Mazda3 made between July 2013 and June 2018 and Mazda6 made between October 2012 and March 2018. The registration date may extend beyond these dates. It is understood that the cause of the recall focuses on the risk of the engine stalling due to accumulations of soot that could cause the intake shutter valve to stick in the closed position.
When contacted, a spokesperson for Mazda Ireland said: "Mazda Motor Corporation continuously examine product quality to ensure passenger safety is our utmost priority and driving satisfaction is maintained. Should any potential defect in product quality be identified, all models possibly affected will be recalled and repaired free of charge with minimal disruption to customers as possible." They added that a large number of vehicles have already been examined and that Mazda has significantly reduced the number of cars involved.
What affected owners can do
Owners of cars that are affected by this latest recall should expect to receive a letter in the post advising them of the necessary steps to take. The inspection will need to be carried out by an authorised Mazda retailer, and any repairs that need to be made will be done without any cost to owners. Any owners that are unsure as to whether their car is one of those affected can contact Mazda's Customer Information Centre by telephoning 01 233 4700. Alternatively, there is a page on the Mazda Ireland website where owners can input their car's VIN to see if it needs to be recalled.
