Electric Hyundai Prophecy concept coming to Geneva

Hyundai Prophecy concept blends traditional shape with modern design.

It wouldn't be a proper Geneva Motor Show without the appearance of some quirky and unusual concepts. This year, along with a refreshed i30, Hyundai will reveal a new electric vehicle concept that it is calling 'Prophecy'.

In a release previewing the concept car, Hyundai says: "The name "Prophecy" reflects the concept's purpose, defining the direction of future Hyundai designs while establishing itself as a design icon for Hyundai's EV lineup." So, while it is unlikely to lead directly to a model based on it, the Hyundai Prophecy should give us a look into the company's design crystal ball. It will hint at some of the design cues that could begin to make their way into production models in the coming years.

It is the latest concept to showcase Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy. While we only have one image of the rear of the car to go on, for now, it reveals vertically stacked pixel LED taillights and a wide third brake light bar spanning the back. It appears to have what could be a coupe roofline and the rear wheel arches curve around to the tail of the car in what Hyundai calls a boat-tail design that will also feature an integrated spoiler design.

Hyundai Prophecy concept won't follow trends according to its designer

According to SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai Global Design Center, the 'Prophecy' concept "does not follow trends. It accentuates timeless beauty that will stand the test of time. Its iconic design stands to expand Hyundai's design spectrum toward even broader horizons." We'll see the car revealed in full on March 3rd at 10:45 am (Irish time), but until then you'll have to imagine the rest.

Hyundai is yet to reveal any technical or performance details, but being a concept car, it is likely that it could feature high-performance motors and possible an all-wheel-drive setup. In addition to showcasing a future design direction, Hyundai may also use the Prophecy concept to demonstrate some advanced technology.
