VRT and tax implications for imported Kombi?

Hi,

I am a teacher as well as part-time farmer. I am looking at changing my car and buying a Volkswagen Transporter Kombi to access outfarm, feedstuff etc. I am looking at sourcing in the UK, but not sure of VRT and then taxing the van. It would be used for farm as we have another family car. The van would be 2016 approx €25,000 euro. Can you advise to VRT rates and tax implications?

How do I prove I am exempt from motor tax?

I have a primary medical certificate, which provides me with certain benefits including a grant for adapting my new car. I have just taken delivery of the car and was told that I am exempt from road tax. I have gone on to the motor tax web site to conform to the registration requirements, but I've been unable to proceed to a conclusion or obtain a tax cert. The car is a Kia Niro PHEV.

Please advise how I should proceed as there doesn't seem to be a facility to contact the motor tax dept.

Regards, Tom Mears

What full-size MPVs are left on sale?

We’ve been driving SEAT Alhambras for quite some time. Don’t want an SUV, want to move up a few years, but alas, SEAT is discontinuing the Alhambra.. The Sharan seems on the way out too. We don’t want to compromise on thrid-row seating, so the Kodiaq etc don’t get a look in either. The Touran would be too small. And we don’t want to get near eight-seaters or “van” territory. What options for us dinosaurs?

Dacia Duster, Suzuki Vitara or Citroen C3?

I currently have a 162 D Dacia Duster that I want to trade up.  Problem is, I don't know what to go for. I was looking at the Suzuki Vitara and also the upgraded Duster and the Citroen C3 crossover, but I don't have a lot of financial power to play around with except the car I have as a bargaining tool. Any suggestions?

Will the Government alter our tax bands?

Hi guys,

I currently have a 2017 Audi Q5 190hp quattro auto S line, which would be due a change for Jan 2020. Road tax is €280 now, but I see from the full WLTP figures applicable from 1/9/2019 the tax will be €1,200, which is a crazy increase, and VRT will also get a huge hike. Do you know if the Government intend to widen the emissions bands to counteract this before 1/9/2019 or should I be looking at buying for 192? Opinions please.

Thanks

Pat

Should I keep or fix my Nissan Qashqai?

Hi,

I am driving a 2012 Nissan Qashqai dCi; I am the third owner and I bought it on 158,428km. I had to replace the battery, clutch master cylinder, front and back brake pads. I took it for a service at the required intervals, but this time around I have exceeded the mileage for the next service by over 5,000km due to financial constraints. I'm not having major problems except hearing some funny squeaky metallic sounds when I'm driving. I need to do the wheel alignment/balancing and I was also told at my last service that the sub-frame needs to be replaced because it is bent somehow. I am not in a position to buy a new car and I still owe money on this car; is it advisable to fix this car or just sell it?

Thank you

Why is my Dacia beeping under braking?

My Dacia Logan makes an electronic beeping sound when I hit the brakes (not the handbrake); sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it does, what could be wrong?
