Looking an importing a 1990 Defender...
I am thinking of importing a 1990 (or earlier) Land Rover Defender 110 from the UK, but am unsure of the VRT charge and the cost of road tax and insurance or even where to get insurance from. Can I tax and insure a commercial 4x4 for personal use if it's 30 years old and vintage? I don't have a business that I can register it against and am just a regular PAYE worker. This will only be a run-around for me and my son so not big mileage. Any help with these queries would be greatly appreciated.

MINI Countryman hybrid or Toyota RAV4?
Hi,
I love MINIs and I wanted to trade my 2019 T-Roc 1.5 for a Countryman SE All4, the new facelifted one and the reason is I want to get better fuel economy and the joy of driving. But then my wife suggested I look at the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, which is much more practical, especially as we have an 18-month-old girl and soon another boy coming on the 20th of November. So, can you compare the RAV4 to the Countryman: which will be the best on fuel consumption? My average T-Roc consumption is 7.1 litres/100km.

Can a farmer use the herd no. for CV tax?
Can a farmer still use their herd number instead of a VAT no. to avail of commercial vehicle tax rate on a 4x4 like a Toyota Land Cruiser or Hilux etc? This was the case in the past but has this changed?

Can I import a Defender as an 11-seat version?
I am considering importing a Land Rover Defender 110 Utility or Station Wagon into Ireland. Can I add two rear bench seats to either of these vehicles prior to importing it to make it an 11-seater? Will this allow me to avail of a lower VRT cost once it's over a nine-seat capacity?

Looking for a car to cover all bases...
We are a senior couple living in a long country lane in Ireland. We drive four long journeys per year. Our nearest large town is 15km away. We would like a car that is comfortable, good on long journeys and short journeys, low on fuel costs, tax and maintenance. And fit at least three grandchildren for school runs.
