It may be 50 years old this year, but the Jaguar E-type still captures the minds and hearts of many, and a new Speedster model is set to stir up even more emotion. Designed by E-type specialist Eagle E-type, the Speedster is a cut-down, stripped out and tuned up Jag with classic looks and up to date performance.
Tipping the scales at just 1,008kg, the Speedster has a lowered windscreen and lightweight body. The wheels have aluminium rims to save weight, while stainless steel spokes give the Speedster its essential classic look.
Underneath the sleek E-type bodywork, the Speedster takes the Jaguar's iconic six-cylinder engine to a fuel injected 4.7-litres and 314hp. It also boasts 325Nm of torque to see it from 0-100km/h in about five seconds and on to a top speed of 257km/h, with help from an aluminium-cased five-speed gearbox.
Eagle E-type has reworked the E-type's steering to offer a more accurate rack and pinion system. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs all round and aluminium calipers, while the suspension has revised shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.
Eagle E-type will unveil its new Speedster at the Salon Privé in London next month, when it will also announce prices for its updated E-type.
