Conventional engine models shown, plus the first SRi Opel Mokka.

We've already seen the electric version of the new Opel Mokka, which goes on sale in the spring of 2021, but here comes our first sighting of Opel's new crossover with conventional petrol and diesel engines.

1.2-litre turbo petrol engines

Those engines are, of course, shared with the rest of the ever-expanding PSA Peugeot Citroen Opel family, and they'll be familiar if you've driven one of the French cars, or Opel's new Corsa, recently. There's an entry-level 1.2 petrol 100hp turbo three-cylinder with a six-speed manual gearbox that uses an official 4.6 litres/100km and emits 104 g/km CO2 for a start. Higher performance is supplied by a 1.2 130hp turbo three-pot available with either the manual or an optional automatic transmission.

1.5 diesel and SRi trim

For those that still fancy a diesel (quite a lot of you, judging from the current figures) there's also a single option: a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit, with 110hp, a six-speed manual and figures of 3.8 litres/100km and 100g/km CO2. For optimum exhaust after-treatment, the diesel engine's emissions reduction system consists of a passive oxidation catalyst NOx absorber, AdBlue injector, SCR catalyst and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), grouped together as a compact single unit, as near as possible to the engine.

There's also a first for this Mokka - a sporty SRi trim. You'll spot an SRi from its signature red body features, a high-gloss black 'Vizor' (that's the big, broad grille thing at the front), black instead of chrome exterior trim elements and badges, specific front seat fabric, a red instrument panel trim, black-finished light alloy wheels, two-tone roof and black headliner.

'Exciting and approachable'

Michael Lohscheller, Opel CEO, said: "The new Opel Mokka features everything the brand stands for, today and in the future. Fun, efficient and thoroughly innovative, the Mokka exactly symbolises the values of our brand; exciting, approachable, German. Our customers are free to choose whether they want to order the Mokka with an electric drivetrain or with one of our new extra efficient combustion engines."
