In spite of the fact that, as far as we can remember, Suzuki only just facelifted the Swift supermini about ten minutes ago, we can today announce that... *checks notes* Suzuki has just facelifted the Swift supermini.
More standard equipment
Well, we say facelifted but actually there are no exterior changes whatsoever, so really this is more like a model year update and a general run through the standard equipment list. Speaking of which, standard equipment is increasing and the new SZ-L model includes air conditioning, rear view camera, radar brake support with adaptive cruise control, smartphone link for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio, leather steering wheel, privacy glass, LED Headlamps, LED rear combination lamps, polished 16-inch alloy wheels and front electric windows.
The SZ-T adds grey painted 16-inch alloy wheels, Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Weaving Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition and rear parking sensors. SZ5 adds Navigation, 16-inch polished alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry and start, telescopic steering wheel adjustment, rear electric windows and door mirror side turn indicators. The Swift is available in one solid colour and six optional metallic colours with three 'dual-tone' colours incorporating a Black Pearl roof.
New mild-hybrid system
On the engine front, you'll once again find a 1.2-litre petrol engine under the Swift's bonnet. This is actually not the old (K12C codename) engine but a new (K12D codename) unit. Power is up by one solitary horsepower to 83hp, while the torque figure is 107Nm. The Swift 1.2 will hit 100km/h from standstill in 12.2 seconds.
All Swifts will now come with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system as standard, that also sees an upgrade for its hybrid battery from 3ah to 10ah. There's an integrated starter/generator which can add a bit of extra torque to the engine when needed, or it can run things like the stop-start system more efficiently. With this new mild-hybrid, the Swift returns WLTP CO2 figures of 111g/km.
CVT automatic option
That's the figure for a Swift with a manual gearbox, but there is an optional CVT automatic too (with steering wheel paddles!). There's also that new radar brake support system that works at speeds above 5km/h and warns the driver to slam on the anchors.
That can be upgraded to Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) which actively brakes the car if it detects an imminent collision. There's also a blind spot monitor, a 'vehicle weave warning' that sounds if you're wandering about in your lane on the motorway, and a rear cross traffic alert that warns if you're about to reverse out into an oncoming car's face.
Prices start from €17,595 for the SZ-L model.
