Cupra, SEAT's spinoff high-performance brand, has named Irish pricing for the new plug-in hybrid version of the muscular Formentor e-Hybrid. And it's starting at under €40,000...
€50k for the top-spec model
OK, so only just under - €39,895 in fact, for the 204hp Formentor e-Hybrid. If you want the 245hp version then you'll have to pony-up €50,130. The most affordable Formentor remains the €37,135 1.5 TSI 150hp model.
Plug-in hybrid segment growing fast
SEAT and Cupra Ireland Brand Director, Niall Phillips, said, "the Cupra Formentor will be key to the success of the Cupra brand in Ireland and is likely to account for over 50 per cent of sales in 2021. We know from the SIMI figures this year that the PHEV segment is growing significantly, up 105 per cent compared to the same period in 2020. Hence, the Formentor e-Hybrid is likely to be of interest to anyone that covets performance twinned with an electrified vehicle's environmental benefits."
Same 1.4 turbo engine
Both models use the same 150hp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine, combined with a 13kWh battery pack, which, when fully charged, can carry you for a theoretical 54km on electric power alone. The top-spec 245hp version accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.0 seconds, while the 204hp model takes a respectable 7.8 seconds to do the same run. Both models have CO2 figures of around 32g/km and official fuel consumption of 1.5 litres per 100km (although you'd have to be using the electric bit of the powertrain to the maximum to get anywhere near that).
