Following on from a little bit of teasing last week, Genesis (Hyundai's luxury brand) has revealed this, the G70 Shooting Brake. It's a rather devilishly handsome estate car, aimed right down the throats of the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant.
No word on Irish sales yet
While there is no official word on whether or not the G70, or Genesis itself, will come to Ireland, the high-end brand says that it's committed to the European market, so there's some hope at least.
Furthermore, Genesis says that the G70 Shooting Brake is, basically, designed specifically for Europe and that it's a car whose style is: "firmly rooted in European automotive history and favoured by customers in the premium luxury sector."
Bigger boot than G70 saloon
Obviously enough, it's based on the new Genesis G70 saloon, the brand's 3 Series rival, and shares all of its exterior measurements - 4,685mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,400mm tall, with a 2,835mm wheelbase. Genesis says that the luggage space improves on that of the saloon by 40 per cent, which by our calculations means around 460 litres (the G70 saloon regularly gets criticised for having a too-small boot).
As with the saloon, the G70 Shooting Brake gets a broad, low-set grille with headlights bisected by body-colour strips. At the back, the tailgate gets a wraparound rear glass hatch effect, with a 'floating' boot spoiler.
Tailored for European customers
Dominique Boesch, Managing Director of Genesis Motor Europe, said: "We are delighted to reveal this bespoke product - tailored for our European customers - so soon after revealing news of our arrival into the region. The G70 Shooting Brake marries luxury and European automotive heritage with our design philosophy of 'Athletic Elegance.' Our fifth car in Europe, the Shooting Brake will stand apart through its unique design; it is a clear statement of our commitment to the region."
