MG, the classic sports car brand revived as an electric family car maker under Chinese ownership, has revealed an updated version of its ZS electric compact crossover. It'll come with a bigger battery than the current model, and a longer range.
Bigger 72kWh battery pack
The ZS will be getting a new 72kWh battery pack for the top-spec model, which will see its WLTP one-charge range rise from 262km for the current version, to a much more useful 440km. You'll be able to spot the new ZS from the new front end, which gets a fashionable blanked-off look, with a smooth panel where there is currently a radiator grille, and new lights, wheels, and bumpers.
The fastest charging speed available will be 76kW from a CCS rapid charger, while there's a 7kW on-board charging system for overnight charging at home. An overnight charge from flat to full will take about ten hours, while rapid charging takes as little as 42 minutes if you can find a charger with a high enough output.
More affordable model with 319km range
MG says that there will also be a more affordable model, with a smaller 51kWh battery pack, which will go for a claimed 319km on one charge - still an improvement on the current 44kWh battery version.
Inside, there will be an upgrade to the main infotainment screen, which will now come with MG's iSMART connectivity system, mated to a ten-inch touchscreen. The iSMART setup allows you to control various car, climate, security and charging functions through your phone, and top-spec models will get a wireless phone charger.
No Irish prices yet
While UK prices for the new ZS are expected to be announced in November, as yet there are no Irish prices nor any specific arrival dates for the updated EV. Ireland's MG importer told CompleteCar that: "The new MG ZS LR revealed by MG Europe today will be available in Ireland but we currently have no confirmed launch date or pricing for this new model. MG Motor Ireland has limited stock available in the dealer network for the current ZS EV model with very competitive prices and customer offers."
