Solid nomination for sexiest estate car ever?

We've already seen the estate version of Porsche's remarkable Taycan electric car, in the form of the Taycan Sport Turismo GTS. This, though, is Irish car buyers' first chance to see the rest of the line-up.

Cross Turismo space, saloon handling

Porsche says that the Sport Turismo is for those buyers who fancy the practicality and versatility of the SUV-ish Cross Turismo but want to hold on to the searing on-road performance and handling of the Taycan saloon. Frankly, the Cross Turismo isn't really tall enough for it to be all that far behind the saloon, but we're always happy to see a new fast estate, so this is still all good.

The Taycan Sport Turismo's prices will kick off at €93,745 when the first models arrive in Ireland in May, and you can start getting your orders in now. Those prices rise to €107,967 for the Taycan Sport Turismo 4S; €133,623 for the GTS; €148, 752 for the Taycan Sport Turismo Turbo; and €178,278 for the mighty Taycan Sport Turismo Turbo S.

What will you get for your money? Well, in line with the saloon (but not the Cross Turismo which is only available with four-wheel drive), the Taycan Sport Turismo starts with a 326hp single-motor version, which rises to 435hp for the twin-motor, four-wheel drive 4S, or 517hp for the all-wheel drive GTS. The Turbo gets a whopping 625hp, but if that's not whopping enough then the Turbo S is packing 762hp in 'Launch Control Overboost' mode.

Up to 498km range

When it comes to range, the longest-legged version is the 4S Sport Turismo, which when fitted with the optional Performance Battery Plus (93kWh gross, 83kWh net) can reach a claimed 498km before needing to be recharged. That big battery can also be rapid charged to 80 per cent in as little as 22 minutes (assuming you can find a charger that's fast enough) and can add 100km of range in as little as five minutes' charging.

The boot of the Sport Turismo is reasonably roomy, if not quite up to Merc E-Class wagon standards. As standard, it can swallow 446 litres, which is around 40 litres more than that of the saloon Taycan, and obviously is more versatile thanks to having a rear hatch. That load capacity does shrink to 405 litres if you spec the optional Bose stereo though, as the sub-woofer takes up space. Fold down the 60:40 split back seats and that expands to 1,212 litres (or 1,171 litres with the Bose option). There's a bonus 84 litres in the Taycan Sport Turismo's 'frunk' as well.

Extra headroom

The change in the car's roofline also means a little more interior space - rear seat passengers get an extra 45mm of headroom, while front seat occupants get an extra 9mm.

The Sport Turismo gets a new optional glass panoramic roof that has electronic dimming - you can select nine different sections of the glass and progressively dim them from completely clear to opaque. As with other Taycans, the Sport Turismo gets remote control parking (which allows you to roll it forwards or backwards for short distances while outside the car) as well as automated parking.

The Sport Turismo also gets Android Auto integrated into its big central touchscreen (that arrived last year for all Taycans with a major software update), while other tweaks include an upgraded Voice Pilot voice assistant and faster sat-nav that's better at working out where and when you need to stop and charge on any given route.
