The covers have come off Skoda's second fully electric model, the Enyaq Coupe iV. As the name suggests, this is a sleeker variant of the existing battery-powered SUV. Irish sales start later this year.
Giving the Enyaq Coupe a sportier appearance to differentiate it from the regular SUV is a sloping roofline and new rear-end design. Clean lines free of any spoilers mean the new model creates less drag, which helps prolong its driving range. Skoda quotes as much as 545 kilometres from a single charge, under the standard WLTP conditions.
Enyaq Coupe iV with two battery sizes
Buyers can choose from two battery sizes for the Enyaq Coupe iV - though Skoda Ireland has yet to confirm availability. The line-up starts with the Enyaq Coupe iV 60, which uses a 62kWh (58kWh net) battery and rear-wheel-drive setup with a peak power output of 179hp (132kW). A larger 82kWh (77kWh net) battery will feature in the Enyaq Coupe iV 80, which also uses a rear-wheel-drive setup, this time with a 204hp (150kW) electric motor.
As with the standard Enyaq iV, Skoda will also add an all-wheel-drive variant of the Coupe to its range called the 80x. This uses the 82kWh battery, while a second motor is added to the front axle to bring the total maximum output to 265hp (195kW).
More powerful Enyaq Coupe RS iV
The Enyaq Coupe RS iV is the first fully electric model from Skoda's performance division and will actually be the first Enyaq Coupe iV model to go on sale. Using the 82kWh battery, it has a dual-motor layout with total maximums of 299hp (220kW) and 460Nm. It will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h. Th suspension is modified with a ride height reduced by 15mm on the front and 10mm on the rear axle.
The RS variant also receives exclusive styling features such as the Crystal Face illuminated grille as standard, while buyers can order it in the head-turning Mamba Green paintwork. There are also exclusive wheel options between 20- and 21 inches in diameter, and the rest of the exterior includes gloss black detailing around the bumpers, windows and door mirrors. The interior receives the RS treatment as well, with carbon-fibre effect inserts, suede-like material on the sports seats and a perforated leather three-spoke steering wheel.
Oliver Stefani, Head of Skoda Design, said: "In our brand-new production car, the Enyaq Coupe iV, we have retained almost all aspects of the Vision iV study, which attracted a great deal of attention just over two years ago. Its elegant design featuring sculptural and crystalline details give the car a powerful appearance. Sporting athletic lines, our brand-new, all-electric first-class model is even more emotive than the successfully launched Enyaq iV. At the same time, the coupe also offers brand-typical qualities, such as generous amounts of space and a high level of functionality."
Interior with sustainable materials
The overall layout of the Enyaq Coupe iV's interior doesn't vary from the current model's and features a 5.3-inch digital instrument display and a 13-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system - which includes connected services and smartphone mirroring software for Android and Apple devices.
Keen to push its sustainability message, Skoda will offer the interior with partly recycled materials. A new seat cover uses 40 per cent natural wool, for example, and 60 per cent polyester derived from plastic bottles. Leather upholstery is still available, but it uses a tanning process with olive leaf extracts that is claimed to be more eco-friendly.
Coupe roofline but still practical
When viewed in side profile the Enyaq Coupe iV looks quite different to the regular model, yet the amount of rear passenger space isn't reduced by a great deal. Adults can still sit upright quite comfortably and the use of a fixed glass panel roof as standard adds to the sense of spaciousness inside. This glass panel uses reflective layers sandwiched into it to help maintain a more consistent cabin temperature and removes the need for a bulky blind system that would otherwise eat into rear passenger headroom.
Boot space is also barely affected by the new body shape, with the capacity rated at 570 litres, only 15 litres less than the regular Enyaq iV. The Enyaq Coupe iV 60 and 80 models can tow up to 1,200kg, while the dual-motor 80x and RS versions are rated to tow a maximum of 1,400kg.
Order books for the Enyaq Coupe are set to open in Ireland immediately for reservations and the first model to go on sale will be the Enyaq Coupe RS iV, which is expected to begin arriving in dealerships from May. The other Enyaq Coupe iV versions will roll out during the summer and into the second half of 2022.
