Genesis has announced some of the European specs of the all-electric GV60.

Genesis has revealed further details about the European spec of its all-electric GV60 model which is due to go on sale shortly.

Sharing the same e-GMP architecture as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, all GV60s are equipped with a 73kWh battery, though beyond that, range is dependent on the version chosen.

First up is the Premium model which, with its single 168kW (228hp) electric motor driving the rear wheels, can manage the GV60's maximum range of 517km - slightly less than the EV6 which has a bigger battery.

Further along the line is the Sport version which adds all-wheel drive by combining two electric motors to develop 318hp in total.

Topping the range is the Sport Plus which, as well as using two 160kW motors to produce 435hp, offers a Drift Mode for some lairy fun as well as a Boost Mode which can eke an extra 54hp from the electric motors in short ten-second bursts.

What to expect from the GV60

Genesis is Hyundai's luxury brand, much like Lexus's relationship to Toyota or Infiniti's to Nissan. As such, the GV60 is set to be well-equipped and finished with standard tech features such as a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless phone charging and plenty of advanced driver assistance systems and safety kit.

Options, Genesis says, will include heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, Bang & Olufsen sound system and digital side mirrors which replace traditional mirrors with cameras and screens.

The GV60 isn't Genesis's first battery-electric vehicle - that accolade goes to the electrified version of the company's G80 saloon - but it is the firm's first purpose-built electric car. Genesis has said that from 2025 onwards it will only launch electric cars, phasing-out internal-combustion models entirely by 2030.

The GV60's styling straddles that odd niche shared with a lot of the current crop of electric cars such as the Ioniq 5 and Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric in that although it's a little higher-riding thanks to its batteries being housed beneath the cabin floor, it's perhaps not quite tall enough to be classed as an SUV.

Is it coming to Ireland?

Genesis launched in Europe last summer with a range of SUVs, saloons and estates, but, as yet, hasn't made it to Ireland. That may change though with Hyundai Ireland having told CompleteCar.ie that Genesis could arrive here in 2023 with the GV60 leading the company's line-up. It's still a long way off, however, so there's no indication as to pricing beyond the fact that it'll likely command a premium over its Hyundai and Kia cousins.
