Renault to unveil Frendzy concept

Frendzy is an electric concept vehicle that is business during the week and fun at weekends.

Renault is set to unveil the Frendzy concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Renault is calling this a business vehicle, which can double up as a comfortable car.

On one side of the vehicle, on the passenger side, there is no glazing or centre pillar, just one door and a sliding door, which has a 37-inch widescreen display incorporated into it. The driver’s side, complete with side windows, has centre-opening doors meant for family use.

During the week, when used for work, the 37-inch screen can be used by the business user to display messages or information - or indeed advertising information.

Then at the weekend it transforms into a comfortable family vehicle. Kids can watch a film or play games on the touch-sensitive pad, which slides out from the back of the driver’s seat. They can even draw on a special blackboard-style slate integrated into the sliding door. On the inside, Renault uses the BlackBerry PlayBook plugged into the dashboard to create an office on the move.

The Frendzy is an electric vehicle using the same powertrain as the Kangoo Van Z.E. although with this vehicle Renault has teamed up with IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique / Musique) to create a variety of sounds for safety reasons as well as to add personality.
