Stylish new Peugeot 308 hatchback will start from €31,765.

Peugeot Ireland (technically Gowan Distributors, but let's not split hairs...) has announced prices and specifications for the new 308 hatchback. The new five-door hatch (and more spacious SW estate) will come with a choice of petrol, diesel, or plug-in hybrid power.

Standard automatic gearbox

Prices will start at €31,765 for a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol three-cylinder turbocharged engine in Active specification. That engine delivers 130hp and CO2 emissions of 128g/km. Almost uniquely in the hatchback segment, an eight-speed automatic gearbox will come as standard. If you want the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine in Active trim, that'll be €33,515 (with CO2 emissions of 117g/km), or you'll need to spend €40,785 for the 180hp plug-in hybrid, with its tiny 24g/km CO2 figure.

Standard equipment for the Active model includes front, side and rear curtain airbags, cruise control, lane-keeping assistant, speed limit recognition, an electric parking brake, active emergency braking, automatic air conditioning, electric auto-dimming mirrors, rear parking sensors, multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, voice recognition, 16-inch alloy wheels (or 17-inch wheels if you go for the plug-in hybrid), LED headlights and daytime running lights, a ten-inch 'HD' touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and selectable driving modes.

Keyless entry

If you want an Allure version, that'll be €35,705 for the petrol; €37,055 for the diesel; or €44.325 for the plug-in hybrid. Standard Allure spec includes active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor, upgraded air conditioning, tinted rear windows, reversing camera, keyless entry, 17-inch alloys, chrome grille effect, the 'i-Toggle' customisable infotainment controls, wireless mobile phone connection, part-leather seats, ambient lighting and high-beam assistance.

225hp plug-in hybrid

At the top of the range is the GT model, which will cost you €39,215 in petrol form; €40,095 as a diesel; €46,190 for the 180hp plug-in hybrid; and €48,785 for the range-topping 225hp plug-in hybrid. Standard equipment includes an air quality system for the air conditioning, a 3D instrument display and head-up display, heated steering wheel, more colour options for the digital displays, a Sports driving mode, Alcantara and leather seats, 18-inch alloys, a dark-chrome radiator grille, a body kit and Matrix LED headlights.

If you want a more practical 308, there's also the new SW estate version, with prices starting from €32,765 for the 1.2 petrol in Active form; €34,515 for the diesel; and €41,785 for the 180hp plug-in hybrid. It's essentially €1,000 extra across most of the line-up.
